In recent years, astronomy research has enjoyed a strong public profile, with astronomy-related articles appearing almost daily in newspapers, broadcast media, and online outlets. Nonetheless, many researchers feel their work is overlooked in favour of much less significant stories, seemingly because some authors benefit from a powerful PR machine or a good personal relationship with the media.
In this workshop, RAS press officers Robert Massey and Anita Heward, both of whom have nearly two decades of experience of working with regional, national and international media, will discuss how and when to promote your results to the press and public. Participants are encouraged to draft model press releases and develop public-friendly images or movies for discussion.
This workshop is free to attend. If you are interested, please put your name in the form below. There is no obligation, but it will help the organisers to estimate the resources required.
