'Sun, Space and Art' is an STFC funded project aimed at KS2 and KS3 children, led by Helen Mason. The project brings together astronomy and art in an integrated approach, taking scientists and artists into schools together. It also builds on the legacy of the Tim Peake 'Principia' project. Four professional artists are working on this project (Helen Schell, Sarah Bridgland, Geraldine Cox and Clare Dudeney). Workshops have been run at several schools around the country, small rural and large inner city schools, in Wales (with support from Paul Roche and Emma Wride, Space Ambassadors), Cheshire, the Midlands, Norfolk (with support from the SAW Trust and UEA), Liverpool (with support from LiverpoolFACT) and London. The project is in collaboration with the Ideas Foundation (Heather MacRae) for work with KS3. The feedback from both children and teachers has been superb, they have really appreciated this creative approach. We are seeking ways to role this project out to more regions and engage young research scientists and artists in their local areas.
