The LOw-Frequency ARray (LOFAR), is a new-generation, low-frequency, multi-field aperture array telescope constructed in the north of the Netherlands and across europe. After a commissioning phase, LOFAR has entered its operational phase in December 2012 delivering to the WorldWide astronomical community scientific and unique data in the relatively unexplored spectral window below 200 MHz. In this talk I will overview major instrument capabilities as well as recent achievements and results in their scientific context.
