In this presentation we will report on the latest status of the proposal to construct EISCAT_3D, which will become the world's leading incoherent scatter radar. During the past year, things have moved on considerably, with progress on the UK funding side and many discussions on the specification of the system and what type of radar is achievable for the capital money currently allocated. We will also report on the latest status of discussions with some of the other countries and organisations who might become users of the system and outline some future study ideas which will feed into the planning of how the new radar will be used.
