Gaia DR1 already presented G-band photometry results for some variable stars observed during the first 14 months of the mission. For about 600 Cepheids and 2600 RR Lyrae stars the time series photometry and the characterisation (mean magnitude and pulsation characteristics) are provided, showing the excellent quality of Gaia photometry despite all the limitations in the dataset and processing for the first release. Gaia DR2 will contain a better G-band photometry, but also integrated
photometry for the Blue and Red Photometers, providing the colour information
for the stars. This will allow to obtain better PL relationship for a more precise identification and classification of the Cepheids and RR Lyrae and to improve the detection algorithms as well.
